The Foundation Stone, as custom dictates, was laid at the North-east corner of the then new classrooms and Hall building. It is now the present School Geography and Library Block.
The Latin inscription on the stone translates as:
This stone was laid
April 22nd 1907
By T.F. Halsey Most Worshipful Provincial Grand Master
with the most splendid Masonic ritual
Let this most ancient school flourish through the centuries
dedicated to liberal learning and the common good
and the greater glory of God
The Laying of the Foundation Stone - 1907
Some twenty-one years before the formation of the Old Albanian Lodge No. 4999, the Freemasons of Hertfordshire officiated at the laying of the Foundation Stone.
At the time the School was housed in the Great Gateway and this project was the first expansion of the School site.
The Freemasons paraded through St Peters Street, St Albans and then to the School site where the ceremony was carried out according to Masonic Ritual.
This was in the time when Freemasons could wear regalia in public
